The brief

PAREA International Charitable Foundation is an international charitable organisation based in Kyiv. The foundation gives May 2008 as its founding date, and the state register records its registration on 31 July 2008, with Natalia Hordiiuk as its head. The name comes from Greek: a parea is a group of friends who meet to share ideas, values, knowledge and philosophy.

In the foundation's own account, it succeeds the charitable foundation «European Development», which worked with the Mission of Ukraine to NATO and the Ukrainian community of Belgium, organised charity festivals and fairs, and co-organised an annual hockey tournament in memory of coach V. P. Utkin. In 2017 it took the PAREA name and widened its work to children, people with disabilities, people in need and environmental investment. Its project areas are health of the nation, cultural heritage, education and innovation, territory improvement, cross-sector cooperation, and help for children with physical and intellectual disabilities and their families.

Among its achievements the foundation lists Europe Days and charity evenings for students in Brussels, more than UAH 1 million raised to modernise hospital equipment in Pervomaisk, Stakhanov and other cities, computers and interactive whiteboards for schools worth about UAH 700,000, equipment for kindergartens, more than 700 items of sports equipment for sports schools, the 14th "Believe in Yourself" creative festival for children with functional limitations in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, and a NATO-supported charity fair for orphanages.

International donors and partners usually check a foundation's registration, leadership and recent work before they commit. The site had to show all three, in more than one language.

The circumstances were urgent. As the chair recalls in her testimonial, deadlines were tight, the site had to launch quickly, there was no design yet, and a previous supplier had dragged the work out and never delivered.

What we did

Design and build on a deadline

We designed the site and built it on MODX Revolution. A front-end developer, a designer, a PHP developer, a junior PHP developer, an SEO specialist and an assistant internet marketer and content manager worked on the project.

Structure in three languages

The navigation covers Who we are, What we do, News and Contacts, with a switch between Ukrainian, English and French. The home page brings together an introduction, key facts, the team and the latest news. On the site today, Who we are tells the foundation's history and the meaning of its name, What we do sets out the project areas, and the chair, the director and the deputy director each have a biography page. The footer carries a "Development and support" credit with the MMIX logo linking to the studio.

Where it stands today

The earliest web-archive capture, dated 21 July 2019, already shows the current design, the same navigation, the Ukrainian, English and French switch, a © 2019 footer and the MMIX credit. The archive holds captures for every year from 2019 to 2025. By 7 February 2023 the header had gained a Donate button and an Appeal page, and the news section carried posts from October 2022.

We checked parea.org.ua on 14 September 2026. The site is live on MODX Revolution over HTTPS, the http and www addresses redirect to the main domain, and the footer keeps the Marketing MIX credit, with the year now showing 2026.

The content records the foundation's wartime work. A report dated 3 November 2022 says that since the full-scale invasion it has delivered humanitarian aid, most of it to Bucha, working directly with the Bucha community from April 2022, and bought Ukrainian-made body armour and military equipment for about UAH 600,000. News posts run from 28 October 2022, on food for soldiers prepared with a school and volunteers in Sambir, to 12 April 2023, a thank-you from the Sambir district military administration. The contacts page adds a second address in Sambir, Lviv region.

The donations page lists five programmes: Medical aid, Victory of Ukraine (protective gear and optics for the military), Rebuilding Ukraine (Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel, Borodianka), Ukrainian Family and Happy Old Age. Donors can give through a LiqPay checkout button or by bank transfer in hryvnia, dollars or euros. The foundation also links its Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter profiles, keeps an Instagram account and has a Google Maps listing at its Kyiv address.

What we would add now

Analytics that record visits again

The site still loads a Universal Analytics tag, and Google stopped processing that format in July 2023. Google Analytics 4 with events on donation clicks and forms would show how visitors reach the donate step. See SEO services in Ottawa: technical and local SEO.

Structured data, link previews and a working sitemap

The pages carry no JSON-LD, no Open Graph tags and no hreflang between the three languages. The robots file points to a sitemap.xml that returns 404 and blocks the French section. NGO markup with a donation action, share images, hreflang and a valid sitemap would help search engines and AI assistants find and describe the foundation. Reporting by programme

The news section stops in April 2023, and the five programmes have no dated reports of their own. A page per programme with dated reports and photos, and a simple publishing routine for volunteers, would keep the record current. See Corporate website development.

Giving from abroad

Since 2022 many Ukrainian foundations receive support from outside the country. A donation form with suggested amounts, a monthly option, Apple Pay and Google Pay, a thank-you page and a receipt e-mail would suit foreign donors better than a checkout link and bank details.

Accessibility and speed

The mobile viewport disables zoom, two versions of jQuery load on every page, and the first response on our check took 2.85 seconds. Restoring zoom, removing the duplicate library and adding caching are quick wins.

Testimonial

I came to the MMIX team the way you would go to an emergency room. The deadlines were tight, the site had to launch urgently, there was no design, and another supplier had dragged the work out and never delivered. The team got through an enormous amount of work very quickly, to a high standard and with real style, and exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend them.
