The brief

Crystal Tax (crystal.tax) is a brand of our own business group, so this case describes work done inside the group. Its managing partner, Maxim Stepanenko, signed the testimonial below.

When the project started, the firm sold offshore company registration. The case page on mmix.ua describes CrystalTax as a law firm that helps clients open an offshore company in whichever jurisdiction suits them best. The mockup's headline read "Professionalism proven by time", presenting specialists with more than ten years in tax planning for businesses in Ukraine and the CIS.

The brief asked for a modern, bright website that stood apart from competitors and built trust in the quality of the service, a large step up from the ordinary site the firm already had.

Buyers in this category usually compare jurisdictions before they compare firms: registration cost, timing, which bank will open an account and whether the owner has to travel. A site earns trust by laying those comparisons out and keeping a qualified lawyer one click away.

What we did

Scope and team

The case page and the project's page on the earlier mmix.biz list market analysis, prototypes, a unique design and site structure, a dedicated design for the Services section, animated elements and pop-up forms, programming, adaptation for different devices, and functional and usability testing. For search, the team built an extensive semantic core, optimised content with unique meta tags, set up internal linking and ran external optimisation. The team included a front-end developer, a designer, two SEO specialists, a PHP developer, a junior PHP developer and a junior SEO specialist.

Design

The home page mockup is a white layout with navy and blue accents, a geometric crystal logo, and a header with the Kyiv office address on Mykhailivska Street, a language switch and a LEGAL menu. Below the photo slider sits the structure the business needed:

  • a sidebar of about 30 jurisdictions, from Austria, Andorra and the BVI to Delaware, Wyoming, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Singapore and Ras Al Khaimah;
  • registration cards with a price for each jurisdiction, plus an offshore comparison block;
  • a "Banks for settlement operations" table showing bank, country, cost, account-opening time and whether a personal visit is needed;
  • offshore structures, a step-by-step registration guide and a section on buying a ready-made offshore company;
  • news, and an "Ask us a question" form fronted by Alexey Sonko, senior corporate-law lawyer.

Prices in the mockup are placeholders, and its news items are dated 22 January 2015.

The build copy

An unfinished MODX copy of the template is still online at crystaltax.pro, with placeholder phone numbers, a test menu item and news dated 8–9 December 2016 signed by Alexey Sonko and Anastasiia Kondratenko. Its LEGAL menu links to the group's Legal Solutions, Regservice and Key-Solutions sites. Together with the mockup, it dates the work to 2015–2016.

Where it stands today

Checked on 14 September 2026:

  • crystal.tax is live over HTTPS on MODX Revolution in six languages: Russian at the root, plus English, Ukrainian, German, French and Spanish.
  • The firm now builds cross-border corporate structures for e-commerce and digital founders: company formation, banking, tax planning and compliance. The home page says "since 2014" and "50+ jurisdictions", from the UAE and Cyprus to Estonia, the UK, Delaware and Singapore.
  • Clients start with a free 30-minute intro consultation, and crystal.tax prices its paid strategic deep-dive at €100.
  • The footer reads "Development and support" next to the MMIX logo, linking to mmix.ua. The credit is missing from the 2019 and January 2022 Web Archive captures and present in the January 2026 capture.
  • The archive shows a WordPress site titled "Buy an offshore in Kyiv" in 2019 and a MODX site by January 2022. The jurisdiction menu from the mockup era survives in a newer template. The archive does not show exactly when the 2015–2016 design went live or when it was replaced.
  • The positioning texts and FAQ markup were rewritten in-house in early September 2026. That work is outside this case.

What we would add now

One address everywhere

The header and About page give an Ottawa address, 116 Albert Street. The LegalService markup gives a Kyiv address with a Russian-language street name and an empty telephone field. Matching name, address and phone across the site, the markup and business profiles are basic trust signals for search engines and AI assistants. See SEO services in Ottawa: technical and local SEO.

Richer structured data

The home page carries a single LegalService node. Organization and Person records for the managing partner, plus Service and Offer records for the free intro call and the €100 deep-dive, would tell AI search who the firm is and what it sells. English first, legacy pages retired

The site's llms.txt calls the content English-primary, yet Russian is the root language and the x-default hreflang target. Older pages still say "buy offshore". English as the default, with the offshore-shop pages rewritten or redirected, would match today's audience and service.

Speed and booking

A curl check measured about 1.9 seconds to the first byte on /en/, and the headers show no CDN. Leads arrive through a pop-up form.
