Hotel marketing, in one paragraph

Hotel marketing is the system that brings guests to book with the property directly. It connects a fast website with a booking engine, a complete Google Business Profile and a listing in Google Hotels, local and multilingual SEO, paid search on the hotel's name and destination, reviews, and email to past guests, and it measures every channel by booked room nights and revenue.

Marketing MIX is an international marketing studio, founded in Kyiv in 2014 and headquartered at 208 Booth Street, Ottawa, since 2024. We work with independent hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, guest houses and short-stay apartments, and we build their pages in English, French, Russian, Ukrainian and German.

How guests choose a hotel in 2026

A traveller usually meets a hotel in three places before booking: an online travel agency, Google search and Maps, and an AI assistant asked for a shortlist. Most then search the hotel's own name to check photos, location, reviews and the price on the official site.

That second search is where a direct booking is won or lost. The guest wants three answers within seconds on a phone:

  • Is the price the same or better here? Rates in Google Hotels, on the official site and on the OTAs should match, and the official site can add a reason to book direct: a room upgrade, breakfast, late checkout or flexible cancellation.
  • Is this place real and right for me? Recent reviews, current photos, the map, parking, accessibility and what is within walking distance.
  • Can I book now? A booking button on the first screen and a booking engine that works on a phone in a few taps.

The marketing system we build for hotels

Every channel feeds one path: search or ad → official site → booking engine → confirmation → stay → review → return visit. We build and measure the path end to end, so a broken step shows up in the numbers.

A website built around the booking engine

The website has one job: turn a visit into a booking. We build hotel websites that load fast on mobile data and show:

  • rooms with real photos, size, beds, amenities and the price from the booking engine;
  • the location: map, transit, parking, distance to the venues and attractions your guests come for;
  • policies in plain words: check-in, cancellation, pets, accessibility;
  • the reasons to book direct, stated once and kept true;
  • a booking button that stays visible while the guest scrolls.

We connect the booking engine your property already uses or help you choose one, and we track the booking as a conversion with its value. Related: corporate website development and landing page development.

Google Business Profile and Google Hotels

For a hotel the Google Business Profile and the Google Hotels listing are often seen more often than the website itself. We complete the profile (categories, amenities, photos, policies, questions and answers), keep it consistent with the website, and connect the property to free booking links in Google Hotels through Google Hotel Center or through your booking engine if it is a Google integration partner. Where paid Hotel Ads make sense for your dates and markets, we set them up and report the cost per booking. Google documents the programme in the Hotel Center Help.

Local and multilingual SEO

People search for a hotel by destination and reason: a neighbourhood, a venue, an event, a hospital, a university, an airport. We build pages for the reasons your guests actually travel, with structured data from the schema.org Hotel type and the same name, address and phone everywhere. More on the method: SEO promotion and promotion in AI search and LLM systems.

Many guests plan their trip in their own language. We write each language version for its market, with hreflang and a booking flow that stays in the guest's language from the first page to the confirmation email.

Paid search and social ads for specific dates

Paid search on the hotel's own name keeps the official site at the top when OTAs bid on it. Destination and event campaigns on Google, Meta and TikTok fill specific dates: shoulder seasons, conferences, festivals and weekends with low occupancy. Each campaign reports booked room nights and revenue next to the cost. Related: targeted ads.

Reviews and reputation

Reviews drive both the decision and the ranking in Maps. We set up review requests after checkout to guests who agreed to receive them, route low ratings to the manager first, and help the team answer reviews on Google and the OTAs. Reviews stay on Google and the platforms where guests left them; a hotel's own testimonials page earns no stars in Google. More: online reviews and reputation management.

Email to past guests

A past guest already knows the property, which makes a repeat stay the easiest booking to win. We collect consent at booking and checkout, send a short sequence before arrival and after the stay, and run seasonal offers to the list. In Canada every commercial email follows the consent and unsubscribe rules of Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Hotels in Ottawa, Gatineau and Ontario

Two rules shape a hotel website in this region besides SEO:

  • Accessibility. Under Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, private and non-profit organisations with 50 or more employees in Ontario must make their public websites meet WCAG 2.0 level AA. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA for every property, because accessible rooms, parking and routes are exactly what many guests look for.
  • French. A property that markets to guests in Quebec publishes in French as well, under the Charter of the French language. We write the French version as its own text for the Gatineau and Quebec market.

For the wider tourism sector, see our guide to SEO for tour operators and travel companies. Properties in the capital region can also start from our Ottawa office page.

What we measure

Metric Why it matters
Direct bookings and revenue by channel Shows which channel pays for itself
Share of direct bookings in total room nights The figure OTA commissions eat into
Booking engine conversion rate on mobile Most hotel searches start on a phone
Google Business Profile actions: calls, website clicks, directions Demand from Maps before the site
Review volume and average rating over the last 90 days Drives choice and Maps ranking
Repeat bookings from the guest list Guests who already know the property

The weekly report puts these numbers next to the spend, so every decision about budget is made on booked room nights.

Pricing

Start with a 30-minute marketing strategy session for €100: we review the website, the booking path and the Google presence and agree on the next step. Everything after that is quoted for your scope. How it works: Pricing.

The next step

Send us the hotel's website address and the name of your booking engine. In the strategy session you get a written read on the booking path on a phone, the Google Business Profile and Google Hotels listing, and the gap against the two properties nearest you.
